FAILURE TO LAUNCH PROGRAM NEW YORK

Is Your Son Suffering from Failure to Launch Syndrome?

It’s a common story in New York and all over the world. A bright young man who maybe played a little too many video games but did very well in high school suddenly becomes stuck in life. Perhaps he stops attending his college classes or fails out altogether. Maybe he struggles to hold down a job or to spend the money he does make responsibly. Video games may consume all of his waking time and he may stay up late and struggle to wake up on time. If this is the case, it may seem like you have lost your bright, smart, and caring young man forever. This is a common fear among many parents of struggling young men.

The good news is that you are not alone, and your son is not doomed to a life of failure. In fact, this is a fairly common scenario for young men entering emerging adulthood called failure to launch syndrome.

Some of the common symptoms of failure-to-launch syndrome include:

  • Difficulty adjusting to the adult world
  • Poor work ethic
  • Failure to take responsibility
  • Lack of vision (for the future or long-term goals)
  • Lack of skills needed for adulthood (such as basic cooking and cleaning skills)
  • Inability to properly handle finances
  • Fear of the future
  • Low self-esteem
  • Social anxiety and depression
  • Lack of direction
  • Difficulty setting goals
  • Academic problems
  • Low motivation

These kinds of issues can be very frustrating for parents. Young men may recognize that they have a problem, or they may be content with their arrested development, unwilling to take on the pressures of the real world. In either scenario, there is help out there to help young men grow into successful adults.

Failure to Launch Treatment

The answer to failure to launch syndrome is a specialized treatment program like Forte Strong. At a failure to launch a treatment program, your son will learn how to overcome anything that may be holding him back and gain the life skills he needs to succeed moving forward. We know that there are a lot of failure to launch residential programs in New York and across the country, but let us make the case for why Forte Strong is the premiere failure to launch a treatment program.

Forte Strong focuses only on failure to launch. There are many residential programs out there that are more of an all-in-one approach. They treat addiction, serious mental health issues, troubled teens, and also those with failure-to-launch syndrome. That’s great, but we believe that failure to launch syndrome is a unique situation that should be treated separately from other issues young adults may face. Young men who are struggling to find their place in the world don’t need to be around drug addicts; they need to be around men with similar struggles so they can all grow together.

Forte Strong treats the whole person. Failure to Launch syndrome is a complex issue, and it can often involve social anxiety, depression, and other underlying mental and emotional issues. At Forte Strong, we have trained therapists who help men through these issues through failure to launch therapy. Failure to Launch isn’t just mental though. It also involves many physical and other skills, such as preparing healthy food, getting enough exercise, finding a job, getting enough sleep, setting and meeting goals, and more. At our residential treatment program, young men learn everything they need to live a full and successful life.

Forte Strong teaches life skills. We are a residential program, so our participants live at Forte Strong over the course of their treatment, which is usually about 6-9 months. Young men who come to Forte Strong aren’t coddled during this time. Instead, they are made to live on their own, but in a safe environment where they can receive the guidance of their coaches as needed. We have found that this is the best way to help young men develop the skills needed to live on their own after graduation from the treatment program. Our participants take the skills they learn at Forte Strong into the rest of their life.

Forte Strong’s location is ideal. While many of the young men we serve are from the New York area, Forte Strong is located in the deserts of Utah in beautiful Saint George. Because Southern Utah is home to beautiful national parks and other natural scenery, participants in Forte Strong often go on hikes and other outdoor adventures. We find that it’s often in the wilderness that our men grow the most because it allows them the chance to push themselves and become stronger and more confident. We’re also located near Dixie State University, where some participants choose to take classes to continue their education while attending Forte Strong. Forte Strong is in the perfect location for men to leave behind their old habits and grow into the responsible, independent adults they are meant to become.

“Six months ago I sent a “lost boy from Neverland” to Forte Strong to find himself. I can brag today that my son has learned to accept who he is and has begun to make plans for the future. I could not be more proud. I too have learned so much from this experience. Thank you FORTE STRONG!!”
